Roe vs. Wade: Thirty-three years later

On January 22, 1973, the Supreme Court of the United States decided that laws against abortion were unconstitutional. Since then, more than 46,000,000 babies have been killed in the United States alone. Every year, about 1.3 million pre-born babies are killed in the United States alone. The numbers, however, are even more heartbreaking when we see that this is less than 3% of the 46,000,000 babies aborted worldwide. That means in these beginning years of the 21st century, more babies were killed than total deaths as a result of Stalin, Hitler, African civil wars, World Wars I and II, Korea, Vietnam, and any other major conflict you can think of. Think about that for a while. Then let's break it down into more statistics and see just how big of a problem we have here. Worldwide, there are about 126,000 abortions conducted each day. That's an average of more than 5,000 an hour, 87 a minute, and almost 1.5 per second.

Those statistics are enough to make one lose sleep. But those statistics are numbers. The heart of the matter is this: babies are dying. Mothers are being scarred for life. Satan is having his way. How can the world allow this? 43% of those having an abortion claimed they were Protestants. 27% claimed they were Catholic! In our country, 25.5% had an abortion because they wanted to postpone childbearing. 21.3% said they couldn't afford a baby. 14.1% say the father didn't want the baby. And almost 11% said that a child would disrupt their education or career! Wake up, people. There is no good reason to kill a baby... but these excuses? God save us.

You can check out two organizations that are working to end the evil of abortion:
Priests for Life and the American Life League. For some prayers for the pre-born, check out this page from Priests for Life.

On another note, I've been watching this news story out of Italy for a while now, and thought I'd put it up here. Sort of a "Most Ridiculous Item of the Day" thing.
Italian Lawyers Asked to Prove Jesus Existed.

Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us!

I know that we all agree about this but it is still good to refresh our minds and memories about the horror of what is happening every day. It is unbelievable that people can justify murder for such lame reasons. Thank you for the thought-provoking post on this topic.

I just went and read the article about the athiest. Wow! I would hate to be him on judgement day. There is a joke about there being no such thing as a protestant/athiest cemetery. That there are only Catholic cemeteries because once you die--you know the truth and therefore are Catholic. This man will have a very rude awakening. He needs prayers. Jesus loves him too and wants him to share in eternity. Isn't that so awesome, this incredible love that He has for all of us? Who knows, maybe this case will change his heart somehow. Or the hearts of many...now I'm rambling...
