St. A's Women's Book Group- Proof of Heresy

The Women's Book Group of St. Augustine's Church has been a topic of several posts of mine. The book club is an ultra-feminist group of women who are angry at the Church for supposed sexism or oppression against women. They look to St. Mary Magdalene as some kind of first century proof of "women priests" and hold an annual celebration in her honor, modeled after Call to Action and FutureChurch's plans. They host lectures by well known dissidents, and read from books that challenge Papal authority and the Church's teaching on ordination. The women (or womyn?) get their books from Wild Iris Bookstore, a local "new age feminist" bookstore that advocates all kinds of perversions.

Despite all of these reasons for completely shunning this group, the parish gives them a page on the church's website and announces their meetings in the bulletin. Well Father Gillespie, St. Augustine's, here is another reason to add to the list.

On March 29, 2008, seven women from the book group went down to Sarasota to the "house church" of Bridget Mary Meehan. Meehan belongs to the group known as Roman Catholic Womenpriests. Meehan is a delusional nut case, in that she believes she was ordained in July 2006 by a woman bishop. While the women from St. A's were at Meehan's home, the priest-wanna-be celebrated a "Mass". The result is that these women are toying with automatic excommunication. The link to Meehan's article about this "liturgy" can be found here.

St. Augustine's must not allow this group to meet on church property, and cannot advertise this group's meetings in any way. Pray for the women involved in this mess, that they might come back to the Truth.

I don't know if you've looked at the Wild Iris website but it's quite horrifying. There was actually a mention of it in the same May 11th bulletin that you referenced. They're basically a remnant bookshop of the "alternative" literature movement advocating lesbianism, homosexuality, (sodomy, basically), feminism, Marxism, etc etc.

This is terrible. How are they getting away with this crap? Needs to stop. I hope someone, not you Jon, has notified the ordinary about this mess. I am ashamed of so many of the things that go on there.

I'm ashamed of some of the comments on this subject. "pray for them to return to the truth"? I'm disgusted with all of this that you write on women. Nothing wrong with women being priests. Mary of Magdalene was a priest along with her brother and they preached in the town where they lived. How dare you talk down to a church and say what they must do to "correct" this "wrong". And me as man to say this should tell you something. IN reference to anthony's comment. I'll agree with homosexuality being wtrong but whats wrong with feminism and marxism? Nothing wrong with women having power of things, nothing wrong at at its just your one track mind speaking. And whats wrong with Marxism? On paper and in theory communism (marxism( is the best and greatest form of government)it just doesn't work because human being are greedy and the people who have tried carrying out marxism have been evil themselves. marxism is the last government that comes after capitalism so its not quite time for it yet. If your so disgusted with St. Augustines, then on sunday mornings don't attend their services. Go into the corner where your boyfriend puts you and have your own little service. Go somewhere else if your so fucking displeased with how things are there. Women have just as much of a right to be priests and have positions of power as men, especially when men do such horrible things daily. especially when you have priests molesting boys or having sex with women when their not supposed to. Find another church to complain about if your so upset with it. Sometimes tradition isn't always the best course of action. And you my friend are no role model for the church. God help us if you become a priest, I cannot fathom the amount of minds you would mess up with your one track mind. IN either case best wishes to YOU finding TRUTH

With all due respect, takelifeheadon, it sounds like you're the one doing all the complaining about the Catholic Church. That you so vehemently (and in condescending and unnecessarily graphic language) defend St. A's in the same breath speaks volumes about how poorly that parish represents the true teachings of the Catholic Church.

Your support of Marxism as an ideal form of government (especially in light of what Marx himself says concerning the place of God and religion in a Marxist state) casts a disturbing light about how seriously you take your faith compared to how seriously you take your politics.

God help us if you don't become a priest I say. We need priests who are brave enough to speak the facts without fear of the reciprocations of the enemy.

Frank, let me say that I am ashamed at your comments here. You start off mocking my call for their return to the truth, and then you end with saying I need to find the truth. So are you allowed to say this, but not I?

You can read the Da Vinci Code and throw that malarkey out there, but I challenge you to show me one bit of solid proof that Mary Magdalene, or any other woman for that matter, was a priest.

The fact that you are a man saying things that are totally and utterly false tells me only that you are misguided. Seriously misguided. Find any woman who is truly Catholic and she will tell you that women can't be priests. It is not about equality. There are solely different roles for men and women. The fact that only a woman can bear a child does not mean that men are inferior.

As for Marxism... that theory is one of the most evil ideas tried out in the 20th century. At its core, it denies the role of God, religion, and the basic right to own property.

Assorted answers: For your information, I do go to Queen of Peace in Ocala for Sunday Mass. I am not a role model for the Church, it is one for me. Nobody has a right to be a priest, man nor woman- it is a calling. Lastly, I suggest you pick up the Baltimore Catechism and get in touch with a good priest.

I have been challenged. I have been challenged by many of the things said in this blog. I have also been challenged by many of the the things said in mass on sunday in church. I want to thank you and I have always been appreciative of the challenging done by the priests at St. A's. Now do I think there are times that we have all said things that are not in the best tone and or can be harsh, I think so. We are all guilty of this. We are all sinners and can all be overzealous at times. Even though all this I think it took courage by you and by frank to say the things you each said. Please though let us all take some time to cool off and pray and allow the love of God to flow from our mouths and our words. Lets allow the holy spirit to guide our thoughts and intentions. There will always be those who are like John the Baptist the voice in the desert, but we must understand that this road is like the man a lonely one. You will be criticized, but if you feel strongly just put it up to prayer and ask God to guide your actions. And this goes for everyone not just our friend jonathon. Tak care and God bless.

St.A's is at it again.

If these women and all of the other disisdent groups there want to spout their leftist agenda let them, Just don't call yourself Catholic in the process. Catholic means something. Read the cathechism and find out.

To say Mary Mgdalene was Catholic priest is a baseles statement not supported by history and sound Christian theology.

What is sad is that this parrish sitsw right across the street from University of Florida. A place where youth are desperattely seeking truth and who find the episcopal church down the street to be more catholic in it's teachings than this bastion of left wing marxism disguised as a catholic parrish
